SPP 1646 Summer School, 11-19 July 2016 in Bamberg

The SPP 1646 Summer School "Competence Development and Educational Inequalities – Theoretical Concepts and Methodological Implementations" seeks to promote young researchers connected to the DFG Priority Programme 1646 “Education as a Lifelong Process – Analyzing Data of the National Educational Panel Study” by strengthening their theoretical and methodological skills in educational research.
This years Summer School offered of a seven-day program with varied teaching and learning formats.
The event started on Monday, July 11. Each day placed either a theoretical or a methodological focus on a certain topic relevant to educational researchers. In the mornings, the participants were given theoretical lectures on different topics of educational research held by leading researchers from different disciplines (sociology, educational research, psychology). In the afternoons, these experts organized discussion sessions in which research papers submitted by the Summer School participants were extensively discussed. All participants of the SPP1646 Summer School actively joined these discussion sessions.

Furthermore, introductory as well as advanced topics in quantitative methods for the analysis of educational processes were presented in the form of lectures combined with practical data exercises.

During the last two days a NEPS-Data Workshop with special focus on imputation and missing data was offered.
In total, 10 (inter)national experts contributed to the Summer School and discussed research papers submitted by the Summer School participants.
